Plain Cladding Usage

• Plain or painted Galvalume sheets should not be used on Animal Confinement Buildings.
• Plain galvanized sheets can exhibit varied spangled patterns due to the galvanizing process. This does not affect the quality of the product. However, due to the potential variation in appearance, these sheets should not be used in Architectural applications.
• Galvalume sheets may darken in appearance due to weathering, with this darkening occurring in different degrees between sheets. This process does not affect the performance of the sheets. However, due to the potential variation in appearance, these
  sheets should not be used in Architectural applications.

Material Handling

STORAGE STAIN: Storage Stain, comprised of white rust or blackening, is caused by moisture trapped between bundled sheets, and is a potential problem with all bundled steel. This moisture may be caused by rain, snow or condensation created by changing temperatures. Agway Metals Inc. cannot control these conditions, and therefore cannot be held responsible for the resulting problem. In order to minimize and hopefully eliminate the problem, we
recommend the following precautions:

• Always unload in dry weather or keep the material covered while unloading into a well-ventilated building.
• Inspect the shipment immediately. If the sheets are already wet, sign the freight bill accordingly and file a claim with the carrier.
• If sheets must be stored outside, keep them off the ground with one end elevated for drainage and cover with a waterproof canvas, leaving the bottom open for ventilation.
• Galvanized steel must be stored in a dry place and in such a manner as to allow air circulation between the sheets in order to avoid condensation. Wet sheets must be separated and allowed to dry to avoid white rust.

CORRECT STORAGE:
Crate or bundle properly blocked on a slope to permit drainage.

ONSITE PROFILE HANDLING:
Carrying of panels in the flat, or twisting of the panels during lifting, can induce a wavy appearance to a previously flat panel. Twisting can occur if one corner of the cladding panel is used to lift the panel or to remove the panel from a bundle.

Incorrect Handling can lead to buckling or other damage to sheets.

Correct Handling: Pick sheet up by the long edge.

Cutting of Steel

If you use a saw to cut steel or aluminum, the following precautions must be taken:

• Use a high speed abrasive saw in good condition.
• Cut sheets away from bundles and installed material, so that hot filings do not damage painted surfaces.
• Use shears to remove burrs from sheets, particularly where they have been cut at an angle
• Pre-painted material must be cut from the back side (with the pre-painted side to the floor). Any filings should be wiped off the sheets immediately.
